Cooperative Summary

Bahia Blanca is a tourist cooperative formed by local Xcalak fisherman who recognized that traditional use of maritime resources was not sustainable. They decided to develop the Bahia Blanca Coop as a provider of eco-tourism services that are a model for the entire Costs Maya in quality of service, safety, and protection of the environment.

Sustainable tourism offers coop members a source of revenue in the community beyond fishing and a way to create employment opportunities for community members who are not fishermen. This means that you get the expertise and local knowledge to make sure your snorkeling, diving, birding, boating, and fishing experience is memorable, safe, environmentally friendly and that you experience the very best that Xcalak has to offer.

Every Bahia Blanca Cooperative tourist activity is 100% oriented toward protecting the environment and all guides and staff emphasize that tourists will be visiting a nature reserve and explain the importance of continuing its protection and techniques for doing so.
