Fishing is my passion – mostly catch and release as this does not hurt the fish. I very much like my work because I am always learning from my clients. Although born in Chetumal, Xcalak has been my home for 37 years and I very much enjoy this place for its tranquility and security.

My name is Balbino Alejandro Batun Puc. I am 26 years old and married with 2 children. I speak English, have good business skills, and specialize in diving tours. I like my work because I get to meet many people. The ocean has been my passion ever since I was born. It is like being in another world which I have learnt to understand through fishing. Now I enjoy appreciating its beauty through tourism. I like Xcalak for its tranquillity, reefs, and people.

My name is Evaristo Sanchez Poot. I am 31 years old and married with one child. I was born in Xcalak. I specialize in catch-and-release fishing and boat tours. I like my work because it gives me the opportunity to share experiences with tourists and to see how excited they are to go fishing. I like Xcalak because it is not crowded and is very peaceful. I speak English to be able to communicate with tourists.

My name is Gavino Alfonso Sanchez Poot, also known as Pash. I am 33 years old and married with three children. I specialize in snorkeling and boat tours. I like Xcalak for its tranquility. I like my work because it gives me the opportunity to learn from the tourists and share experiences. I was born in Chetumal but have always lived in Xcalak.

My name is Gerardo Arreola, also known as Yayo. I was born in Xcalak and am 38 years old, married with three children. I specialize in diving, snorkeling, and catch-and-release fishing tours. It gives me pleasure to share my knowledge with and learn from my clients -- and to make sure they have a enjoyable time fishing. I like Xcalak for its natural beauty and tranquility.

My name is Jesus Hernandez Tolentino, also known as Chucho. I am 30 years old and married with one child. I am a tour guide and a captain, specializing in catch-and-release fishing tours and good service to my clients. I like Xcalak because you can live close to the ocean with tranquility. I was born in Veracruz but have lived here for 17 years.

My name is Jorge Armando Castro Gutierrez. I am 36 years old and married with 3 children. I am a guide and a captain and specialize in diving and snorkeling tours. I like my work because I get to know people from different countries and because the ocean is like my home. I was born in Xcalak and like it because it is a peaceful place with beautiful reefs.

My name is Jorge Marcelo Gonzalez Ancona, also known as Wina. I am 34 years old and married with three children. I specialize in catch-and-release fishing tours. I like to make sure that my clients are happy on the tours and that they leave knowing that they had a good time. I like Xcalak, the town where I was born, for its tranquility and beauty.

My name is Jose Luis Batun Allen. I am 38 years old, married with 2 children and am a tour guide and a captain, specializing in diving and snorkeling tours. My English is very good. I enjoy my job; it makes me feel free and relaxed, mostly because it allows me to enjoy the beauty of our coral reef. I like to offer good service to my clients. I was born in Xcalak, and I appreciate the quietness of this community.

My name is Luis Ramon Almilla Lopez, also known as Bon. I am 27 years old, and I specialize in snorkeling and bird watching tours. I like my work because it gives me the opportunity to exchange experiences and customs with tourists, discover new species of birds, and is very enjoyable. I was born in Xcalak and have lived here all my life. Everyday it is peaceful, and there is much unexplored nature. For this I like Xcalak. I can speak English and have been trained by the RARE Center for Nature Guides.

My name is Marcelo Gonzales Gomez. I am 54 years old and married with 7 children. I specialize in boat tours. I like my work because I get to spend time with and get to know more people. I like to share what we have in this area with the tourists. I like Xcalak because it is peaceful. Little by little tourism is increasing in this village but at a controlled pace, so that there is more work for the people of Xcalak. I was born in Xcalak, and have lived in San Pedro for 3 years, Orange Walk for 3 to 4 years, and in Corozal for one year.

My name is Nemesio. I am 61 years old. I am married with 6 children and 7 grand children. I specialize in fly fishing and boat tours. I like my community because it is very peaceful. I like my work because through tourism I get to meet people from different countries and share with them the history of this place, show them the nature and teach them to fish. I was born in Xcalak and I speak very good English.

My name is Oscar Salazar Aguilar; I am 41 years old and married, with one son. My specialties are catch and release sportfishing, trolling, and boat tours.  This work pleases me because it brings me in contact with people of many different nationalities; I provide them with "sustainable" tourist activities and good service. For 24 years Xcalak has been my home and I can say that this place is perfect for raising children and educating them about protecting the natural environment.
